David Turner

David A. Turner, Captain, Law Enforcement

David Turner began his career with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office in 1989. He started in the Jail Division as a Jailer. He was accepted to the Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad in January 1990 in addition to his jail duties. In October 1990 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Jail Division overseeing the classification of inmates, and prisoner transports.

In October of 1998 He was transferred to Law Enforcement as the first full-time bomb technician overseeing an eight-member squad that covers Lubbock and the surrounding 21 counties. In November of 1999 David was selected to attend the ATF National Canine Academy and received upon graduation one of the first 12 ATF Certified Explosive Canines.

David was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2004, and continued to oversee the Bomb Squad, and helped to establish the first Sheriff’s Office full-time canine unit with four canine teams. In November of 2009 David was promoted to the rank of Captain and placed over Special Operations. In July of 2010 he was moved to Uniform Operation where he currently oversees the Patrol Division, Fugitive Warrants Division, Civil Division, Courthouse Security Division, The Bomb Squad, and the Canine Unit.
