The Inmate Programs Department is tasked with rehabilitative, educational, religious and job readiness programs for inmates. Members of this division report to the Director of Programs.
Rehabilitative Services
The Rehabilitative department of Inmate Programs is tasked with addressing behavioral issues with inmates. They meet with inmates who find themselves in violations of facility rules frequently. This department officers therapy services and utilizes internships with Texas Tech to meet inmate needs. Programs provided include:
- Alcoholics Anonymous
- Narcotics Anonymous
- Parenting
- Anger Management
- Sep-Up Program
Educational Services
These programs seek to rehabilitate inmates through improvement of their academic competency. A large majority of the jail population lacks a high school diploma or GED, and many do not have the skills needed to maintain a positive and successful lifestyle. The following educational courses are offered:
- Graduate Equivalency Degree Prep (GED Prep)
- High School Diploma Program
Religious Services
Religious Programs offer spiritual services in the areas of worship, religious education and counseling, for all religions. Faith based programs enrich the inmates’ lives using spiritual guidance to encourage them to seek purpose and fulfillment in positive ways. Various ministries teach inmates to cope with crisis, life-changing events, and normal day-to-day stress through a sense of fellowship and community. These services aid in reducing recidivism by creating networks and offering resources to inmates upon their release for continuing religious growth. The following religious programs are offered:
- Crisis Counseling
- Bible Study
- Religious Classes
- Weekly Worship Sessions
- The Dream Institute Program
Working Inmate Program
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center offers work opportunities within the jail for those inmates that qualify. Inmates can get positions in the laundry, kitchen, janitorial department, warehouse, and several off site locations. The working inmate program is a strictly a voluntary program; no inmates are forced to join. Those inmates that opt to join the working inmate program are eligible for working inmate credit toward any county jail sentence. Officers assigned to this department work with inmates at job cites to ensure they are trained and properly instructed.
